Bearketh (/bearketh/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Hukēgof County, Tuhate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Bearketh is derived from the Sylvin language, as Bearketh was founded by Glêg̈ Summerhayes, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Bearketh has a yearly average temperature of 20°C (68°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 28°C (82°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 12°C (53°F). Bearketh receives an average of 224 cm/y (88 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Bearketh covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 2130 m (6988 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Bearketh was founded durring the early 12th century in summer of the year 1144, by Glêg̈ Summerhayes. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Glêg̈ Summerhayes.

Bearketh was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Bearketh is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Bearketh is buildings have been located at convienant points along the gorge Bearketh was built upon. Navigating the town is therefore a little chalanging as the distance between buildings verris greatly and the premissive cobblestone streets flow where they are able to be made rather than folowing the most convienant paths. The town rests behind the absurdity that is a thick, timber braced, wall made of clay bricks. While visualy impressive and certainly an astetic, Bearketh's wall provides no actual defence against siege equipment due to the choice of its cosntruction materials. Even nonexperts can tell the town is trying to impress rather than defend with its walls, towers, and gatehouses. Though admittedly, they do look nice... To primitive tribals who have never seen fortifications before. Unfortuantly, these political statment focused walls are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

A quick look in any direction shows Bearketh is filled with vices. There are many taverns, brothels are advertising their services on the streets, cardsharks are plying their illicit trade within public squairs, and every shop has at least three signs advertising various sales on goods. That alone wouldn’t be too noticeable, if it wasn’t just so omnipresent and overwhelmingly how the people of this town live. Or if the general public wasn’t so enthusiastically, openly, and merrily participating in these activities.

Civic Infrastructure

Bearketh has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Bearketh. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Bearketh's parks.

Bearketh has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Bearketh.

Bearketh has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Bearketh has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Bearketh has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Bearketh's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Bearketh has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Bearketh's natural decorations nor waterways.

Bearketh has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Bearketh has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Bearketh is home to a distinct subculture, who are either the majority here or have the dominant positions in the community. Architecture, local laws, and social customs are all tuned to suit them, and they may not be particularly forgiving or friendly to the major culture of the region. Communities that are not outright independent usually make an arm's-length submission to a local lord.

Bearketh's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its fluid and florid elaborate style, comprising ornate, asymmetric designs and pastel shades. It is often considered to be a playful, light style, which made exuberant use of curves and emphasized subtle asymmetry in the general shape of its structures. Walls, ceilings and moldings are decorated with numerous interlacing of curves and counter-curves based on the shapes of ‘C’ and ‘S’, along with shell forms and other naturalistic shapes.

In Bearketh there are no smells.

The Dallo near Bearketh are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Bearketh's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves drinking to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 2 via speaking in tongues.
